Really Talking to God

Most everyone knows the Lord’s prayer, but how often do we think about what we are say when we repeat those words? A few days ago the kids of 678 (ages 10-13) did some thinking about what that famous prayer means to them. Here are some of the things they wrote.
Our Father in Heaven
- Yo, dad in heaven
- Dear father in that beautiful, glorious heaven
Hallowed be your name
- How awesome you are
- Glory be to your great name. You’re the best!!!!!
- How wicked* are you.
- You’re a well wicked* dad, you are.
Your kingdom come
- I need your awesomeness.
- We want you to come down and stop all the bullying and ills and killing.
- Your kingdom is proper well cool.
- Your house is way cool. I can’t wait to get it.
Your will be done on earth on as it is in heaven
- Can you make the earth like heaven?
- You will always be with us no matter what. You can see our future. We love you.
- I will be good like you are good in heaven.
- I want you to get what you want like in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread
- Give us what we need.
- You provide us with everything we need. Lord, give us what we need!!!!
- Give us our daily supply.
- Can you give us the stuff we need?
And forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors
- Make me do right when I do wrong.
- Please, Lord, forgive what we’ve done wrong. Wash our bad things away.
- Forgive me when I do wrong
- Can you forgive me when I go wrong, and help us forgive.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one
- Help me. Don’t make me do sin.
- Help us and guard us forever. God, help us not to get into trouble. Please make us avoid trouble, and get us out of bad stuff!!!!
- Please help me avoid evil things.
- Help me not to be stupid.
For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever
- Your power and your goodness is great.
- Your kingdom and universe is yours forever. Your happiness is in us. No one is better than you.
- Your kingdom is the best, and nothing can beat it.
- You’re in charge, so give me power to do what you want.
Amen
- Yes!
- All God’s children said, yes!!!!
- And we all say, yes!
- Yes.
*Wicked is used here with the informal meaning of very cool, not the more commonly understood meaning of evil.
